LEVEL 3 PIANO STUDY
LESSON 1: 3/4 time piano accompaniment pattern using a LEFT hand walking bass scale. This study is in the key of C. This exercise will help to prepare you to play the song made famous by Billy Joel called PIANO MAN.
LESSON 2: Let's try a little variation on lesson one. Instead of playing a simple 3/4 time accompaniment ("comp") pattern, let's take this same musical principle and apply it to a piano solo. In this lesson we will just play simple triad chords in the left hand, but those triad chords will be moving in the same direction as the left hand bass note did in lesson One. The bottom note of the triad chord will be following a descending C major scale while the middle and top note of the triad chord consists of harmony notes. I composed a really easy right hand melody so that you can concentrate more on the left hand chords.
LESSON 3: In this lesson, I am going to take you back to lesson one, but, I am going to show you how to modify this pattern just a little bit in order to make it sound much more interesting. All we have to do is to play the first key of the right hand chord by itself. Then follow this single key with the other two keys of the right hand chord....but remember, you have to play the middle and top notes of the right hand chord together. It is only the first note of the right hand chord that you play as a solitary note.
LESSON 4: This lesson is little bit more complicated than lesson 3. In this lesson I want you to break the right hand chord up into a set of 5 eighth notes. Remember this is a piano accompaniment pattern. So far I have given you 3 piano "comp" patterns that share a common tonality.
