The Musical Staff, Clefs, Measures
The musical staff consists of 5 lines and 4 spaces.

BELOW IS THE GRAND STAFF. The grand staff is a combination of the treble and bass staves. (The plural of staff is staves.)

MEASURES: The staff is divided into blocks, or sections of music, by using vertical lines called bar lines. Measures help to make musical notation logical. Click onto this pdf file to see an example of measures, and bar lines dividing the music into logical sections.
